Keep the Change.
On a whim, I enrolled in the ‘Keep the Change’ program at Bank of America. That way, everytime I use my debit card, a rounded-up dollar amount will disappear from my checking account and the change will be deposited in my savings. I make a lot of insignificant purchases each day, wasting time after classes and wandering the consumer-friendly isles of various florescent-lit stores.
It’s typically along the lines of this:
$2.74 at Safeway for Chinese food. (+ .26)
$3.49 at Target for hair ties or bobby pins. (+ .51)
$5.34 at Tri Dee for a new tube of paint. (+ .66)
$2.95 at Co-Op or a grocery for sparkling fruit juice in a cute bottle. (+ .05)
$9.56 at Victoria’s Secret for a thong or a bottle of shimmer lotion. (+ .04)
That’s just one day, and about $1.50 added to my Savings. If I keep that up, I can make almost $50.00 a month without even trying! Not bad!!! Of course, I can’t possibly be consistently spending in this manner. I have to account for trips to the salon and online shopping at Sephora, UO and Aber.
On the other hand… I’m spending close to $700 a month… which is coincidentally about how much I make. I should probably look to save money more deliberately, so I can like, really save– instead of depending on my incessant spending to “earn” money.
Wow. What an epiphany. I mean, in one seemingly meaningless post, I’ve been revealed (to you and myself) as someone who bought into (unintentional pun…) the whole American/credit card company/rewards program/punch card ideals of spending money to make money. From now on, I’m saving my receipts and spending less…. Really.
I’ll keep you updated.

I love scanning!! Holla!!1
I finally got around to downloading Spybot onto this PC. The Internet was running slowly last night. Action was obviously long overdue. I refuse to use any protection other than Spybot and Adaware.

And I Was a Boy from School.
Today at work we had to drain the hottub and scrub it. I had fun slipping and sliding around soaking wet and freesing my black dress-pants butt off. Barb told me to spray the heater vents out with that Dust-Off stuff. I like using the Dust-Off. It gets so cold that you can scratch ice off the can. I like spraying myself too, to see how close I can get it to my skin without it stinging. The heater caught fire. Seriously, 12″ flames. It went out after a while. No big deal. Things are always catching fire around me… usually because I’m bad at cooking. I don’t even run away anymore.
Cindy brought home some Mexican pizza for me just now. My dad is still in Seatown, so Cyn and I are here for a couple days by ourselves. It makes me nervous being alone with her. I’m always scared she’s going to offer to get me birth control or ask me about my period. Cindy is really, really crazy. She often spontaneously squeals or screams. I have to act serious around her, to balance out the situation.

My parents are so cute.
Really, they are the nicest people. Every morning they leave me a pleasant note on the counter (on the back of the ‘Daily Spanish’ calendar my brother bought them) that says something like this:
Good morning Mellie!! Call/text us! Love you!
(smiley face or sketch)
- Dadroo
I also get notes like this:
I’m not sure what ‘c-iron’ is. I think he meant my straightener. Anyway, dad and cyn are headin’ off to a DECA conference in Seatt this weekend, so I’ve the house to myself.

Grrr…
You may recall a while back, I was very upset about my parents entering my room without permission. Now I’m finding things are missing. Things that need neither disclosure nor discussion. Things that they know I can’t say ‘Bitch you took my …!”
So I’m VERY mad.
Upon closer inspection, doorknobs are quite complex to remove and replace. It would almost be easier to put a chair under the knob and a big slide out the window. Sigh.

Movie Review: Across the Universe.
If you haven’t already seen Across the Universe at least six times, you need to go (right now).
I usually avoid musicals, but this one was amazing. I know it seems like a totally cliche artsy obligated-to-like movie, but it’s actually very sweet and intense and everything you love about Vietnam war/peace movies… or movies in general.
The leading actors Jim Sturgess and Joe Anderson are too hot for words. The leading actress, Evan Rachel Wood, is a bit chubby, but has a nice voice and pretty hair. It’s all covers of the Beatles, I’m listening to the soundtrack right now!!
